What is PDO thread lifting?
PDO threads are polydioxanone surgical sutures cleared by the FDA for use in skin tightening and redefining the contours of your face, retexturizing skin due to volume loss, general lifting and tightening. At CaTara Med Spa we are well respected and known for our PDO Threads in Chicago.
Which areas can be treated with PDO threads?
- Upper and lower cheeks including jowls (midface procedure)
- Neck and jawline
- Fine lines in between the nose and lips
- Marionette lines
How does PDO lifting work?
PDO threads are inserted under the skin above nerve endings and blood vessels. There is minimal pain associated with this procedure. All procedures are done under local numbing, very similar to going to the dentist. The PDO threads left under the skin promote your body’s own production of collagen, creating a lifting effect for 12-24 months post procedure. The threads become a support structure for your face, allowing natural collagen and elastin production to take place and maintain that lift.
What happens during PDO treatment?
After receiving a local anesthetic, PDO threads will be inserted using a blunt tip cannula. PDO thread lifting is a customized procedure, and your healthcare professional will work closely with you in order to achieve optimal results.
There are three different types of PDO threads: smooth threads, volume threads and barb lifting threads. Your experienced practitioner will conduct a consultation and decide which threads are best for your skin type and desired results.
It is also worth noting that our PDO threads in Chicago don’t involve any sort of incision, meaning stitches are not required and there is no wound healing associated with this procedure.
When will I see results?
PDO barb lifting threads deliver immediate results which continue to improve over the next two to six months as new collagen is produced. Although the PDO threads will slowly dissolve, you will continue to see results for up to 24 months if not longer.
How long are PDO treatment sessions?
The time of your procedure will vary based on many factors—such as the size of your treatment area—but typically takes between 30 and 60 minutes.
Is there downtime associated with this procedure?
Typically, downtime is minimal. Most patients are able to resume their normal daily activities in 1-2 days. Some patients experience minimal swelling and bruising which follows their own natural swelling and bruising patterns. Everyone will be provided with pre and post care instructions associated with PDO thread procedures.
Are there any negative side effects?
PDO thread lifting is a safe procedure, using blunt tip cannula needles means there is no permanent lasting damage associated with the procedure, as the threads dissolve in 4-6 months. Complications are uncommon but all complications can be fixed in an office visit, typically resulting from thread displacement.
